Geo-Seas

A 2-day Training Workshop will take place at IFREMER in Brest, France on Wednesday 9 January 2013 and Thursday 10 January 2013. The Workshop is only for Geo-Seas partners and aims at training of data managers of data centres in the production and operation of new products and services, in particular: seismic, log and DTM viewing.

On the 9 & 10 OCTOBER 2012 the Geo-Seas project will host an international workshop to present the results of this European Commission funded project and provide demonstrations of these tools and services for the discovery, assessment and access to a range of marine geosciences datasets. The workshop will also include a number of keynote presentations by invited speakers from the international marine research community and other related fields.

An invited poster session will also provide an additional opportunity for a number of related projects and research activities to make a presentation to highlight these initiatives and outline their aims and objectives.

The Geo-Seas project is making good progress in developing its core services for discovery and access to marine and ocean geological and geophysical data sets. In addition new associated services are being developed for virtual browsing and viewing of distributed data sets, in particular seismic survey and lithological logs. It is important that potential users from science, government and industry become aware of these services and also give their feedback for finetuning. Therefore Geo-Seas is organising a User Workshop which will take place on Wednesday 14 March 2012 from 13.30 to 17.00 hours at the Excel centre in London - United Kingdom in the context of the Oceanology International 2012 exhibition.

A 4-day training course will take place at CNRS in Strasbourg - France aiming at data managers and technicians of the 27 Geo-Seas data centres. The data managers will learn to work with the common Geo-Seas formats and procedures, as developed in WP4, and software tools, as developed in WP8, for preparing and updating metadata, processing and quality control of data, both for geological data and geophysical data. The technicians will get trained in implementing and configuring the system tools, as developed in WP8, for interconnecting the data centre systems and the portal, for generating and exchanging metadata, for converting data to standard formats, and for monitoring the performance of their nodes in the Geo-Seas infrastructure.

The Geo-Seas plenary meeting with all partners will be held on 26 and 27 April 2010 at ICTP, Trieste, Italy. The meeting will also be joined by the members of the Advisory Board. The 3rd Steering Comittee meeting will take place at the same location on 28th April 2010.
